Hello from Dr. Prince
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions
Dr. Jennifer Prince is a board-certified pediatrician. She was born and raised in sunny Florida. After completing undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Florida and the University of South Florida she attended medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing pediatric residency at the University of Rochester, Dr. Prince worked in hospitals across the country- from New York to California to Alaska. While in California she oversaw the feeding therapy and failure to thrive clinics at the University of San Diego. What she found time and again, no matter where she was, were many families struggling to help their young children with colic--often used by providers as a catch all for children with conditions such as reflux and allergies and intolerance, but also as a way of dismissing or overlooking the reasons why some children refuse to feed or become distressed while eating, Â She founded Crying, Colic, and Beyond as a way to help families find comprehensive care, and most importantly relief, for their children.Â

Dr Prince's licensing details can be found here.
Â
We support families through a range of infant and childhood challenges, taking a gentle, holistic approach tailored to each child. Conditions we commonly work with include colic, reflux, sleep difficulties, allergies and intolerances, and feeding challenges. This also includes support with bottle feeding, breastfeeding, and the introduction of solids, particularly where there may be aversion or distress. Our aim is to help your child feel more comfortable and settled, while giving you the confidence and reassurance you need.

If your baby is in pain or discomfort, we know that waiting even an extra day can seem like a lifetime. Before you schedule your new patient consultation you will have the opportunity to select the appointment time you would like based on Dr. Prince's availability. We typically post available slots no further than one week in advance. That said, if none of the available appointment times are suitable please contact us at info@cryingcolicandbeyond.com. We will work with you to set up an appointment time that works for you and your little one and aim to have you seen as soon as possible. 95% of patients are seen within one week of requesting a consult.
Typically, any emails will receive a response within 12 hours. If you do not hear from us please check your junk/spam filters.

Because Dr. Prince works with families across the globe, we understand that timing can be tricky. Yes. If any prescriptions are recommened during your consultaiton Dr. Prince will write these for you. Our patient coordinator will contact you following your consultation so that your child's prescription can be sent to the pharmacy of your choice, provided it is within the United States. Please note: Prescriptions cannot be sent to pharmacies outside of the United States. If you are an international patient and prescription medication is recommended as part of your child's treatment plan we will do our best to find alternative options, though these will be country and location specific. If you are wondering what options exist for your current location please contact the practice directly and we will be happy to help.Â
The advantage of telemedicine is that it allows you to schedule an appointment with Dr. Prince no matter what your location. You will be meeting with her via video call from the comfort of your own home, reducing the cost and stress of travelling to an appointment and limiting the risk of picking up an illness from sitting in a waiting room. If a prescription is part of your baby's treatment plan, this can be sent to a pharmacy of your choosing provided it is within the United States.Â
Yes! We are happy to assist international families however we can and will work with you to ensure we can offer an appointment time that will work despite time differences.Â

Please note that Dr. Prince is not able to issue prescriptions outside of the United States of America. If medication is recommended as part of your baby's treatment plan we will find alternative options, though these will be country and location specific. If you are wondering what options exist for your current location please contact the practice directly and we will be happy to help.Â
Your initial appointment fee includes comprehensive support before, during, and after your consultation, ensuring you feel fully guided every step of the way.
Â
Consultation
Your consultation will take place via Charm, our secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. We will ensure you are fully set up in advance. Appointments typically last around 50 minutes and provide dedicated time to explore your concerns in depth. You can also access any shared documents after your appointment and communicate with the team through this platform.
Questionnaire & New Patient Forms
Once your consultation is booked, our patient coordinator will be in touch to set you up on our secure patient portal and provide a detailed new patient questionnaire and forms. This is carefully reviewed by Dr Prince ahead of your appointment, so we encourage you to include as much detail as possible.
Â
Video Review (if required)
Depending on your concerns and questionnaire responses, Dr Prince may request a video of your baby feeding. This allows for a more thorough assessment prior to your consultation.

Individualized Treatment Plan
Following your appointment, Dr Prince will provide a personalized treatment plan tailored to your baby’s needs. Our medical team will support you with any follow-up questions, coordinate prescriptions if needed, and arrange further testing where appropriate.
Â
Ongoing Support
Your appointment also includes three weeks of chat support with our medical team. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions, share updates on your baby’s progress, and receive guidance as you implement your treatment plan.
We currently do not contract with insurance companies. There are several reasons for this, and it is not a decision we have taken lightly. Part of the reason why we don't accept insurance is because of our general ethos as a practice. Two of the things we are most committed to offering are:
The ability to meet with Dr Prince quickly (usually within 48 hours)Â
Thorough appointments where all of your questions and concerns are addressed and you leave with a comprehensive treatment plan designed to help your baby feel betterÂ
Â
The problem with contracting with insurance companies is that it will make it very difficult- if not impossible- to achieve the above goals. If you’ve ever been referred to a doctor only to be told the next appointment is 6 months away or if you finally see a specialist only to get 10 minutes with them before they are rushing off to the next patient- this is the likely reason why.Â
Â
Accepting private insurance as payment would mean that we would have to contract with a medical billing company that could take anywhere from 6% to 12% of costs. We would also have to hire a separate employee who would have to track down payments from the insurance company and send bills to all of the patients for the amount the insurance company doesn’t cover or applies to their deductible. Dr Prince would need to see more patients, and spend less time with each patient, in order to cover the added cost of hiring another employee.
Â
Additionally, we would need to charge higher prices. Insurance companies each pay different amounts for each service and clinics usually price services high to ensure that they can get the maximum amount of reimbursement from each insurance company. Unfortunately, because many insurance plans have high deductibles or large co-pays, this could mean that some patients end up spending more in the long run.Â
Â
Accepting insurance would also mean involving a third party in your child's medical care- the insurance company. When a third party, such as a health insurance company, becomes involved in patient care, the insurance company’s main interest is to pay as little as possible for the treatment of your baby's health-related issues. While insurance companies have the right to make a profit like anyone else, there are certain ethical boundaries to be considered.

Because the insurance companies want to make as much money as possible, they may go beyond their scope of expertise to make that happen. For example, they may require your little one to have unnecessary testing done — testing that won’t give us the answers we need — in order for them to consider approving a more advanced and costly type of treatment plan that your child needs. This approach may create delays in obtaining an accurate diagnosis and/or treatment plan.

Although we do not accept insurance directly, if you have out of network benefits, you may be able submit a claim for reimbursement following your appointment. The practice can assist with providing any information or CPT codes you’ll need for this process
While we not take insurance directly, what we can guarantee is this:
All consultation fees are available to the public and are not arbitrary. We have also created a subscription option for follow up appointments to help make them as affordable as possible while still delivering the level of care your child deserves.
You are not likely to wait long, if at all, to meet with Dr Prince. Some families have even had same day appointments. We do not double book appointments.
We maximize the time you spend with Dr Prince. As long as you arrive for your virtual appointment on time, you will spend about 50 minutes face-to-face with her so that you will be the consultation feeling confident and reassured about the treatment plan we have agreed on. Following your appointment you will also have 3 weeks of support available through our dedicated patient portal.
Â
Our guidelines for care will be provided following your consultation. These can also be accessed here:
Â
After your payment is submitted, you will receive an email from support@cryingcolicandbeyond.com (please add this to your address book to avoid it being filtered to spam).
This email will include instructions for accessing our secure, HIPAA-compliant patient portal and completing your required new patient paperwork and questionnaire.
Please note that the appointment time selected at checkout is considered a preferred request only and is not confirmed until all required paperwork has been completed and you receive an official appointment confirmation through our Charm scheduling system.
Once your paperwork has been received, you will be all set up for your consultation. If your new patient paperwork and quetionnaire is not received within the state time frame we reserve the right to postpone or cancel your consultation. To avoid delays, we recommend completing all paperwork as soon as possible.
Please note: Processing times may vary, particularly for payments submitted before 9am/after 6pm PDT, over the weekend, or on holidays. If you have not received an email from us within a reasonable timeframe (typically around 24 hours), please check your junk/spam folder or reach out to our team.
Â
Charm is the online electronic medical interface that our practice uses to coordinate your little one’s care and carry out appointments. It is user-friendly and HIPAA compliant.Â
Â
Charm is where you will find all of the new patient intake forms that need to be completed before your first appointment. This is also where any appointments will take place and where you will be able to communicate directly with the care team.Â
We want to make sure you get as much out of your appointment as possible. Here are some of our tips to help you prepare:

Write down any questions you have for Dr. Prince in advance. It can be difficult in the moment to remember everything you want to say, and this way you can make sure that all of your questions will be answered.Â
Make sure you’ve filled in all of the new patient intake forms and questionnaires with as much detail as possible. The more information Dr. Prince has before the appointment, the more time she will be able to spend discussing your concerns, answering questions and guiding you through treatment options.Â
Â
Â
We get it- life happens! (especially with kids!) If you do need to reschedule your appointment, we ask that you give us at least 4 hours notice. Appointments that are rescheduled with this notice period will incur no extra charges. Any missed appointments, or requests to cancel/reschedule without this 4 hour notice period are unfortunately non-refundable.Â
Â
If you would like to cancel your appointment and would like a refund, please email us (again, we require at least 4 hours notice before the scheduled appointment time). Your appointment fees will be refunded less a $100 processing fee.Â
Â
If your appointment has already been completed we do not offer refunds.Â
Â
After your appointment, our care team will set you up in Charm Connect, our secure, HIPAA-compliant communication platform, where you will receive your care plan, recommended treatments, and next steps.
Follow-up communication is typically provided within a reasonable timeframe (often around 24–48 hours) after your appointment.
Please note that if your appointment takes place on a Friday afternoon, evening, or over the weekend, or a holiday follow-up messages may be sent the next business day.
If these include a prescription we will assist you in getting it to the pharmacy of your choice. We are also able to recommend trusted compounding pharmacies if you need any assistance in that area. You can also access any shared documents after your appointment through your patient portal in the documents section.Â

Although our practice does not accept insurance directly, we can provide you with any information you need to apply for reimbursement with your own insurance. Please contact us within Charm for these details. Any prescriptions will go through your own insurance policy.
Â
Please note: Reimbursement is dependent on your individual insurance policy; however, we are happy to provide the necessary documentation to support your reimbursement request.
If you have any questions, concerns or difficulties with any part of this process, please do get in touch as soon as possible. You can send us an email and we will make sure you get the help you need. Contact us at info@cryingcolicandbeyond.com. We aim to respond to all inquiries within 24 hours. If you have not heard from us within this time please check your junk and spam folders.Â
